Am I an "I" Specialist?

I had a great session today with the E&Y Tax Associates today when I gave them a complete overview of the 7 Habits. Although the power was frequently down, and the room was quite stuffy, they paid close attention and I sincerely believe that I added value. This group is usually frank about their feedback, which I like. In fact I got very valuable feedback about my delivery style today from Mr. Varun.

They serve snacks and juice after the session. This energises everyone after the three hour long learning stint. When I was downing a cold mousambi juice varun came to me and enquired about my Mission Audit and as to whether I took feed back from strangers. I said, 'Yes, of course.'

He then went on to point out that I used the first person pronoun (It's "I" Dummy!) too frequently. This could throw people off the topic as they may not relate to me as a person. Moreover some of the participants may feel left out of the discussion due to this excessive "I" fixation.

I am consciously reducing my I usage, but should watch out in future, although I (Oh my God!) don't see how I will be able to relate those deeply stirring personal life episodes without using I. Maybe I (Here we go again!) should convert them into stories about an imaginary person,my friend etc..,

Anyway, Thanks a ton Varun!

Even when this book was very dandily stacked in my father's personal library, very conveniently i ignored its presence and concentrated on browsing through other books.. but that session of yours on this "7 Habits" got me to "look" for this book in the Crossword Book shop and flip a few pages of the same! later, i learned - Abhishek even bought a copy of the same!

more over - "remember there's no spoon"'s doing wonders!

Thanx Sir! Very interesting session indeeed! :)

Sir,

With all due respect, I must also bring to your notice that you use the personal pronoun a bit too often, as Varun has rightly mentioned. It is also to be mentioned here that, though you tell people that you share your experiences not for bragging, but for educational purposes to the listeners / trainees, it is not being taken so in some cases.

I agree that one can not root for universal popularity or universal acceptance when one is involved in such an activity of transforming the lives of public at large, but one can always lessen the opportunities presented to the same public that seeks to digress from the point of discussion.

I am absolutely inexperienced and very poorly equipped to be making this comment on such a great person as you, but I wanted to make an honest point that might add greatness to someone I so admire.

I sincerely wish you all the best in your endeavours to transform the way people live their lives, in your own way.

Sincere and Honest,
Siva Kumar
